a bit more realistic 📱

This week was a redo challenge that I did last week. You can read about about here.

Since the challenge didn’t go as planned, I wanted to try again this week. I manage to decrease the daily average to about a little less than 6 hours which is a plus. I plan on to continue monitoring my screen time and will keep you guys updated.

If you look closely, you can see this week on Monday I hardly used my phone. This was solely because I had no time to even look at the thing. We had pretty huge presentation due the next day so we were practically glued to our laptops and were working on it for a straight 8 hour after class. The next several days I had some more free time than usual which I used to my advantage to catch up on some youtube vids and my audio book. I also noticed that when using Spotify or the podcast app, it does not count that entire time as screen time which unfortunately means I have no excuse as to why I still exceeded my phone usage time. After doing this challenge I was more aware of how often I reached for my phone and feel like I wasted time more than I thought.

Honestly if I was not consumed in my work on Monday, the daily average would not have changed at much from the previous week.

I have received several suggestions about what type of content you all want to see in the near future and will start planing new and improved content when finals are over.

Excited for what’s to come and thank you so much for sticking with me along the way. Thanks for stoping by and I hope to see you next time!

Sincerely Hassinah ♥️

setting up myself for failure

Wow, these weeks really just get harder.

This past week was crunch time. I have 3 presentations and papers due this week and they have nothing but consumed me. I try really hard to organize my time where I won’t become overwhelmed when the due date is near but somehow things don’t always go as planned. If I learned one thing in college, it is that no matter how prepared you try to be, chances are you’ll still never feel ready. Thankfully I have had enough experiences to understand that you just have to push through and everything will be OK!

If you had the chance to read my email I sent out last Sunday, you would have seen that the challenge chosen for the week was to cut my phone usage down to 3 hours compared to the 6 hours and 43 minutes average of the previous week. When creating this challenge, there was no specific guidelines as to what I should limit and what I was trying to achieve by doing this. Because of this, I ultimately had set up myself to fail.

Last week: I like to have something on when I am doing work, so Netflix took up a lot of the time. I wanted to see if you I could try to limit that or take it out completely.

This week: The difference you can see here is that I spent way less time on Netflix since last week and limited my youtube usage to only 1 hour a day.

The week just went by like it normally does and I used my phone way more than I needed/intended to.  I have been receiving some suggestions from you all about how I should have changed the challenge up a bit which is why I wanted to try again this week.

I have attempted to create social media timers to limit my usage which has surprisingly worked, but  I would like to get into full gear this week. I may also include another challenge requested by a few since this is the last week of the campaign.  I will keep you all updated.

Thanks for stoping by and I hope to see you next time!

Daily Journaling: 11/8/19

AHH thank GOD its Friday haha! Even though I know my weekend will probably be 10x busier than my week I am so excited just to organize my last several week of school and get stuff done. Today was a pretty great day. Unfortunately I wanted to get some work done but one thing lead to another and I ended up coming home around 11pm and went straight to sleep.

For breakfast I had some egg whites, cottage cheese, avocados, and topped it with some salsa. It was actually so good!

We went for a hike after my work and then went to SB and had some coffee and relaxed a bit before I went to my sisters place.

I was playing with my baby nephew and some how hit my phone on the chandelier and my screen cracked. Was kind of sad but thought it was slightly funny because I didn't even drop it and I buy all these protective stuff for it but my luck is like this ALL the time. When I called my brother he too started laughing  said "of course you would be the first one". My last phone I repaired the screen 3 times. I tried to be extra careful with this phone considering new phone new me, but I guess somethings don't change :(.  Thankfully I have warrantee but I also have a $200 deductible. I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and replace it or repair my screen. Still contemplating.

My sister and her guest were going to Opryland and I thought it would be fun to join, which it was but honestly I would have much rather stayed at home and get some work done. Nonetheless had some quality time with my nephew (Sanaullah).

And just like that, daily journaling has come to an end. I actually REALLY enjoyed writing these posts and reflecting on my days. I feel like time flies by so fast that I forget all the moments that made me smile. If you enjoy posts like these let me know and I could find creative ways to structure these types of content.  Thank you so much for spending this week with me and I hope to see you next time!

Daily Journaling: 11/7/19

If you have come this far you’d probably guess how my day went. I go to class ,then work and then the gym (if I don’t have tons to do). In today’s journal entry I wanted to show you sort of what I eat in a day when I’m working and going to school. I am huge snacker so ill included some snacks that I enjoy and are relatively healthier than most options.

For some odd reason my appetite was pretty huge so I ate more than I expected. I was at work from 10-4 and ate every couple hours or so.

I didn't really eat everything here but I always like to pack enough so I won't feel like I have to buy something I don't want and probably isn't that healthy. It is also nice to have options that you enjoy and would give you a good amount of energy throughout the day.

For breakfast I had one whole egg and 3 egg whites with cottage cheese. It was actually a lot of food but I ate it in a span of an hour or so and it was pretty delicious/fulling.

Here is snack #1. Not sure if you remember from one of my posts how I mentioned I am in the market for new protein bars, but you can read about it here. I found one at sprouts that was surprisingly very yummy. You should give it a try and if you find any more that taste great microwaved LMK!

Snack number 2! I love snacking and its cranberry season. Cranberries actually have tons of antioxidants and are great for you. If you want to learn more about their benefits, you can click here.

Just for fun haha :)

After work I had some time for a quick workout so I headed to the gym. I actually spent way longer than I expected (2 hours) because in addition to my run  I took a workout class. Regardless of how much more I am behind, I enjoyed it SO much. I was able to get some homework done afterwards and then went to bed around 11pm or so.

This wraps up day five! Slowly but surely these posts are all coming in. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next time for the last day of daily journaling. Please let me know if you like these types of posts or if there is anything else you’d like me to write about.

I feel like time is flying and I still have so much to do. Today my 8am was cancelled and I decided to skip my 11am so I can I have time to squeeze my workout in and still do some work for my internship. For my internship I work mostly at the office but sometimes I work remotely which is super convenient. I honestly don’t know how I would manage to work 20 hours a week at the office without falling extremely behind in my school work. Everybody on my team is so understanding and very patient with me. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a great team.

For breakfast I made some protein oats which actually kind of tasted weird and I did not enjoy it very much. I prefer my overnight oats much more. I just ate enough with my fruits and placed the rest in the fridge (not sure if I would eat it soon but I really don’t want to waste it).

It looks SO delicious, but the protein powder ruined it. I think it was the kind that I have. Probably only good in shakes.

I got full pretty quickly and just didn't want to eat anymore. If it tasted yummy then that would have been a different story haha.

After work I went to school for an hour then I went to the office to finish up some more work. I left the office around  4 for a meeting at school then I stopped by the grocery stores to pick up some items I needed for the rest of the week. I really enjoyed grocery shopping and believe I am actually pretty good at it, but  during this semester, it has been very hard to dedicate that much time to it:(.

When I got home, I finished some homework assignments then I headed off to bed.

This wraps up day four.  I notice these posts are coming late, but better late than never haha.  Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next time!

Daily Journaling: 11/5/19

Today was a good day. I didn’t sleep as much which is okay because I felt rested. My Tuesday and Thursday schedule consists of class form 8-11 in the morning then work till 5 afterwards. Somedays I try to get off earlier if I have to go to school or if I have a test the next day. At work I just completed my daily tasks and caught up on some other stuff that accumulate when I am not not working. I ate some of the left over pancakes I made for breakfast at work. You can check out the recipe here.

I spread some cream cheese on the pancake and topped it off with apples and PB.

I had a pretty decent lunch which kept me full for a while. I feel you can wrap anything in butter lettuce and it will tastes great haha.

I just mixed some shredded chicken with kimchi and a bit of mayo.

After work I went to the gym. I planned on doing my running plan which consists of 30 min running intervals and then was going to do just 30 min of strength training. But when I finished my run I felt great and somehow managed to be at the gym for an hour and half. This wasn’t really new to me but this semester I was always short on time so it felt really good to get back in the flow. I felt kind of tired afterwards but still refresh and was able to get a lot of work done before I went to bed. I wasn’t that hungry so I just ate a protein bar. I’ve been really into protein bars that you can warm and they become all gooey and delicious. If you have any recommendations please let me know! My favorite one isn’t sold anywhere so in the market for new ones.

This wraps up day three.  Honestly shocked these are still coming but glad I’m sticking through it. Really enjoy writing them. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next time!

If you haven’t read the first day of the journaling series, you can click here!

So I overslept. Honestly it has been a pretty long time since I way overslept and missed a class that it was bound to happen. I wasn’t worried because everything is online plus I was able to make an actual breakfast that was quite tasty haha.

In my omelet I have spinach, mushrooms, and eggs topped with Sriracha sauce. Super simple but extremely delicious.

I still ended up going to school for the rest of my classes then I met with one of my groups to start our project. Afterwards I went to this shoe store called Fleet Feet so I can purchase some running shoes. My running journey has been on and off due to some minor injuries. I was advised to purchase shoes with more support to make my runs are more enjoyable and less strenuous on my joints. I initially went to the store just to get my foot sized because that’s literally the worst part of shoe shopping but the employee was really kind and patient with my indecisive self, so I decided to just buy them there. The issue was even after the sizing I still feel like it isn’t quite right. Kind of sucks that I have to go back but hopefully I can find the right ones.

For lunch I had chipotle and then I went home and went for a run. The weather was nice but the later it got the colder it had become. After my run I made some dinner and then finished the day with some work and organizing posts for this blog. This blog is extremely time consuming but surprisingly I look forward to it. I hope to continue even after the class is completed with more exciting content as I slowly get the hang of it all.

This wraps up day two. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next time!

Daily Journaling: 11/3/19

Today was a pretty chill Sunday! I woke up around 8:30 am and began doing some homework. I wasn’t too hungry so I just had a banana and coffee for breakfast. Later around 12pm I walked to the gym and did a HIIT spin class than jogged afterwards for half an hour or so. I love a little pick me up when all I do is stay at home and work. After my workout I had some leftovers from yesterday than showered and started working on my blog. These posts take a while to write and organize but I really do enjoy writing them.

SB is like a 10 min walk from my place so it's pretty convenient :)

I made some banana pancakes so I can perfect the recipe and share it with you all. You can find it here! I wasn’t really that hungry so I just wrapped them up and placed them in the fridge.  Afterwards I ended up visiting my sister for a little while in which my nephew ended up scratching my face so that was kind of sad. Wanted to do some self-care and do a face mask but my face was pretty sensitive so I decided to skip out. There goes that, haha.

I also feel like it is appropriate to mention how I REALLY am not a fan of Daylight savings. Like there is absolutely no point in it and not worth the trouble. Apparently it is bad for your health, but whatever the excuse is, can we please just be without it! Haha, sorry. I got carried away. Anyways, there goes my vitamin D haha.

Side note: It's pomegranate season and we take that pretty seriously at the Telwar household LOL.

I ended up sleeping around 11pm which should not have happened but I was working on a paper that I forgot about. Payed for it on Monday. Spoiler alert, I overslept.

This wraps up day one of the daily journaling. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next time!

Banana Pancakes, BABY! LOL

Banana on Apple iOS 13.2Pancakes on Apple iOS 13.2

For this delicious recipe you will need:

  • A blender or food processor
  • 1 egg (58 gms)
  • 1 banana (92 gms)
  • splash of almond milk (54ml)
  • almond powder (1 tbs)
  • 64 gms of oats

I had a food scale so it helped measure my ingredients 🙂

Realized I could have just taken this pic and not cook the pancakes but it had to be real for the blog.

Looks legit haha!

You can alter this recipe however you like but this is what I am currently enjoying. Some people add vanilla extract and baking soda but I didn’t  have those when I first made them so I decided to experiment with whatever I had. I added the leftover almonds in my almond butter because I didn’t want to waste it. It was surprisingly yummy but I would add less next time for a smoother finish.

Old pic but same recipe!

a week in my life

Here’s to a week in my life. Daily journaling did not happen this week but will began Nov.4-Nov.9. I plan on writing in my journal on Sunday and posting about it on Monday and so on. This week was all over the place and had no energy to post every night. I recently posted my very much overdue water challenge recap yesterday. You can read about it here. It’s nothing too ground breaking but interesting to see how dependent our bodies are on water. I also mentioned an article that you can read further into about it. For this week’s post I decided to do an overall weekly recap and then later on upload a recipe on one of my favorite breakfasts. I will put a poll up to see if you guys want to see how I make my overnight oats or banana pancakes.

Today was a pretty chill day. I didn’t have work so I just went to school and then came home and worked on some assignments and cleaned up my place a bit. And to be completely honest, I kind of forgot what else I did because there were no pictures I took that day lol.

Today was ROUGH. The morning was pretty chill  but work kept me pretty busy and then I had to come back to school for a meeting.  The meeting went pretty great and then afterwards, I studied for my exam. For lunch I made a really yummy salad with the juiciest chicken I cooked the night before. It kept me full the entire day so that was pretty great.

Not sure why my carrots look kinda crusty, but they were great and crunchy. Also, I really like this probiotic Sriracha. I purchased it from sprouts (aka one of my favorite grocery stores ever).

Me and my sisters were texting back and forth and I randomly came to a realization that I might be in love with the flat white latte from SB, so I decided to write that in chat and explaining how I should be rewarded for breathing ( it was a joke lol). Anyways I came home to an envelope with my name on it on my mirror (below). Haha, I always send random messages assuming no one really reads that much into it, so when I saw this I laughed so much.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate my amazing sisters haha. Honestly, not sure where i'd be without them. If you are reading this, love you Yasmin haha!

On this day I was running on a little more than 2 hours of sleep (as you can see below). I can’t remember the last time this happened but I definitely want to prevent this from reoccurring in the future. I wasn’t too upset because I’m pretty confident I aced my test that I was studying for and was able to get some sleep in later that night. After my classes I went to work. Later that night I had dinner with 2 of my really great friends, Nimo(left) and Andrijana(right), from high school. I had such a great time and was able to forget about everything for a little bit and catch up on all of our busy lives. Afterwards, I went home and went for a quick run outside because the weather was really nice.

Can't believe its been so long since we all hanged out, but I am so grateful to have this moment. It really made the rest of my week pretty great. We also had one of our favorite foods, Indian, and it was extremely delicious! We went to Taj,which I definitely recommend.

Happy Halloween, haha! I’m not sure what it is but Halloween is so fun. I never really celebrated it by dressing up or trick-or-treating but just the festivities and a reason to eat candy is so exciting haha. Also a huge fan of having an excuse to hang out with people and watching scary movies. It was a pretty chill day though, no scary movie but still ate some candy. I went to school in the morning and then had work afterwards. I finished a bit early than usual and came home and chilled with my sisters.

My 8am was cancelled so it gave me a pretty great opportunity to sleep in. Oh how this really changed my mood the entire day haha. I was schedule to work from school that day but I decided to skip my classes and just stay at home and work. I finished around 1 and then went out with Nimo to run some errands and grab lunch. We ended up eating Taco Bell, which I love and then she left for work. I ended up going to spin class later that day which was pretty amazing. Andrijana was leaving Saturday so she came for a bit and we had some tea. Afterwards I posted on my blog and went to bed.

My week was actually not the busiest but I did have little to no sleep which made it hard to function normally. Seeing my friends really made my heart happy and made the rest of my week pretty great. I am so grateful to have such amazing people in my life and hope one day to be able to do more for them. I am also thankful for you a for taking the time out of your day to read this.

Thanks for stoping by and hope to see you next time!
