Oh, WATER 💦

The benefits of drinking water are endless but why is it that it’s one of the hardest things to do on a daily basis for most people. Often times you believe you are consuming enough water but just like tracking your calories, it’s shocking to realize how completely off you are. Before I get it into how I did on this water challenge where I drank 1 gallon a day, I want to briefly mention a disclaimer. Although drinking a lot of water can be very beneficial, if it is overdone it can lead to water intoxication. The excess water consumed dilutes the sodium levels which then causes fluids to move inside the cell and swell. If you want to make sure that drinking a gallon (3.8 liters) of water is okay for you, you can consult your doctor or measure it by your weight and daily activity. A gallon for me is more than my body needs but not by much. I try to be fairly active and sometimes add salt to my water if I fear that I lack enough sodium that day.

Day 1: 130oz

Day 2: 126 oz

Day 3: 128 oz

Day 4: 96 oz

Day 5: 92 oz

Day 6: 80 oz

Day 7: 80 oz

Above is the amount of water I drank each day of the challenge. The main goal of this challenge was to drink 1 gallon of water throughout the say which was successfully accomplished 2/7 days. Those 2 days are also the same days I spent longer at the gym.  As the days went by, I noticed I became thirstier because I was drinking less than when I started. As much as I tried to reach this goal it was pretty difficult to constantly remind myself to drink water. When I was thirsty, I would either not have water available or too tired to drink it (at night). Even though I was not able to drink that gallon a day I still felt the difference when I did vs. when I didn’t.

I read this article when I was doing this challenge that basically backed up why water is essential for the overall well-being of an individual. It also mentioned how the “decrease in fluid consumption is predominantly due to a decrease in thirst”, which depends on the amount that is being consumed. For example, if you tend to drink more water your thirst signals are much stronger vs. someone who doesn’t. Water is not only known for hydration but primarily a key factor in all the process in your body. Without a sufficient amount of it, it lacks the ability to regulate your body to homeostasis. If you’re interested in learning more about how amazing water really is, click here.

I definitely still find my self not drinking enough water on the daily basis but what I found that worked for me was to flavor it with lemon. I drink the infused water through out the day and try to have water readily available so when I am thirsty, I wouldn’t just ignore it. This may not be the most interesting thing you’ll find on my blog, but it’s nice to have a friendly reminder to stay hydrated.

Thanks for stoping by and hope to see you next time!

Falling Behind

Wow, what a week! I honestly don’t know how I can manage to always fall behind every time things get hectic. I know things will get harder as we wrap up this semester with projects and then finals. It’s funny to think that I wanted to make this blog about “how you can do it all”, but I am literally being crushed at the moment haha.  I am not worried much because I feel like I can take this to my advantage and try something new. Pretty crazy that this semester is almost over and then I’ll only have one semester till I graduate, definitely exiting and nerve-racking at the same time.

Something new

The way I normally structure my blogs for the past couple of weeks were 2 posts weekly, one on Wednesday and another one on Sunday. Wednesday’s post was usually an update of my challenge and Sunday’s post wrapped it up. This week I wanted to approach it a bit differently, because this past challenge doesn’t require much to document. As you probably noticed by now, my video production has yet to start and not much content is out. But I promise my plan is to be a bit more consistent and start making better goals for my blog and accomplishing them. Lately I feel like I am just doing things to get it done and there is no growth at all. It’s like the same thing every day and kind of feel like I am actually falling apart than improving.

I haven’t really pin pointed why or what exactly it is that is making me feel more and more demotivated to do anything. It’s also kind of sad to be in a constant slum when you really can’t afford to be. Anyways I really tired of this feeling and I am going to take a step forward and really attempt to make a change. For the next week I will do daily journaling. It’s going to 100% honesty and will be posted here every single day. I still will like to post other types of content so if you have any recommendation/suggestions please comment below. I believe that if I am able to document each day and how I am feeling throughout it, I can figure out where the change needs to be and start making more attainable goals.

Lack of Motivation

So I watched this Ted Talk about 2 years ago which I rewatched yesterday about motivation and I remembered why it still resonated till this day. Sometimes I feel like the #1 excuse to not accomplishing your goals is waiting for you to feel like it. Although I believe that timing is essential and things will happen when it needs to happen, you must put in the effort in it. I personally believe the only way you can bring change into your life is to ditch the motivation and focus on consistency. Find what you want and day by day, work for it. Stop thinking and start doing. “It’s your job to make yourself do the crap you don’t want to do so you can be everything that your supposed to be and your so damn busy waiting to feel like it and you’re never going to”. Mel Robbins continued in her Ted Talk about how you can take advantage of the moment right now and use it to bring you one step closer to where you need to be.

Watch the ted talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp7E973zozc

I’ve been on this binge watching spree with Ted Talks and I am so excited to share it all with you. In addition to my daily posts starting tomorrow, I will recommend a Ted Talk for you to watch and some key points that I enjoyed from it. I am excited to use this platform to document my journey on what whatever it may be on. It comforting to be able to share this with you and at the same time maybe inspire you into to doing something can bring a positive change in your life. Gosh I am so excited haha!

Also stay tuned for the update on last week’s challenge. Nothing extremely new but did read an article about water which had some interesting points that ill talk about.

Thanks for stoping by and hope to see you next time!

An end or a new beginning?

This challenge was pretty interesting because although it wasn’t as difficult as I thought, it was really challenging at times. It made me wonder if  the difference would be more noticeable or even if my sugar cravings would weaken. I wonder if this could last a bit longer before I crack. What I enjoyed the most about this challenge  is finding meals that I like and are easy to make along with being healthy.

Day 4: Wow, I can’t believe I made with this far with out a lick of Nutella haha. I normally don;t crave Nutella but my sister bought some and made fresh Nutella croissants. Ya I was pretty sad lol. For breakfast I had my usual overnight oats which I promised to post soon, so look forward to it! For lunch I had some rice, veggies with scallop, and kimchi. It was good but honestly wouldn’t make again and don’t think I want to eat the leftover haha. I don’t know if it’s just me but the scallops are like way fishy for my preference and can be over powering when not cooked properly with the right seasonings. For dinner I wanted baked chicken with honey but we ran out of thawed chicken legs so I just ate the rest of the stuffed bell peppers.

The kimchi and rice were great but the vegetables just wasn’t  my fave.

Day 5: I had breakfast around 1:30 when I got to work because I was swamped with tons to do. I just had my overnight oats which were of course delish but I don’t think I made enough considering I was still pretty hungry afterwards haha. I came home around 5 and three delicious baked chicken legs with honey. Because I couldn’t have it yesterday I sort of went overboard lol. I snacked on some grapes through out the night and called it a day.

AHHH I love chicken and honey (not pictured) lol!

Day 6: I woke up pretty early considering I came home last night around 1 from partying. Lol just kidding we watched a Bollywood movie which of course takes hours when they could’ve clearly cut out many scenes ahah (i have pretty passionate film reviews). Anyways I cleaned my kitchen which took a couple hours then I decided to treat myself with some delicious bananas pancakes I made earlier that week. Trying to perfect my recipe so I can share. For dinner my brother made some steak tacos and WOW they were much better than I imagined. When he was making them he brought them to me and my sister all garnished, it was really cute haha.

Ya, so glad I made these. Can’t wait to share!

He garnished it with cilantro and placed some some pickled veggies and a slice of lime on the side. Super yummy!

Day 7: WOOHOO lol! Last day of this challenge and honestly I think could  last an entire month. I guess we will see how far I go and maybe I can update you. This morning I just had the rest of my pancakes from yesterday because I couldn’t finish it and then I just had dinner around 6. I had the same delicious steak tacos that my brother made again. Gosh they were actually so yummy and definitely plan on making it more haha. Honestly I really miss cooking. Hopefully when I get the chance to actually cook, I can share my favorite recipes with you 🙂

Because of this challenge, I wanted to try this  28 day reset challenge. Starting from the 21st of this month, I plan on placing my body on “reset” mode and want to document any changes physically and mentally. This isn’t really a part of the weekly challenges but something I wanted to try.  My plan is to document everything in a journal  which I will share on a weekly basis. If his is something that interests you, let me know. I feel like monthly results are a bit more exciting so follow along and see what happens. I have faith in myself but dang do I love ice cream haha.

For more information on the 28 day reset, you can click here.

Thanks for stoping by and hope to see you next time!

A day at a time without chocolate

This week challenge was not to eat any processed foods. About 55% of you wanted to me to challenge my self in eating whole meals without the addition of anything processed. For the entire week I plan on documenting the meals I’ve eaten and how I have been feeling through out the day. I hope you enjoy this week’s challenge and let me know what you want to see next!

Day 1: Monday was really busy but productive. I went to a spin class then went for a walk. Afterwards my sister and I went grocery shopping then came home and ate some stuffed bell peppers with rice and meat for an early lunch. I was running errands all day and then had work till 8, so I ate dinner around 8:30. I was pretty hungry and forgot to take a picture before I started eating but remembered mid way lol.

Super simple meal with the right amount of protein, carbs, and fats along with some greens 🙂

My half eaten salad lol. In it was spring mix, shredded meat, tomatoes, onions, red cabbage, cole slaw mix, and some greek yogurt with lemon and salt for my dressing.

Day 2: I wasn’t hungry much so I just ate a banana and 2 dates for breakfast. I left the house around 11:30 to pick my sister up so we could go hiking. Around 12 I started to crave a lot of things haha. Kind of why I really prefer not eating a late dinner because that just messes the next day up. I decided to come home before our hike so I could eat something. I had the same thing I had yesterday but this time I mixed my yogurt with some chopped up tomatoes, onions, and purple cabbage. After the hike I went to the gym a bit so I can get back into the groove after 2 weeks of not going. For a late lunch/dinner I had banana pancakes arounds 4:30 ish and they were surprisingly so delicious. I plan on writing about my favorite recipes so if you are interested, let me know. I wasn’t really that hungry the rest of the day but was in a munching mood so I just had some carrots and water. I did eat a little rice and veggies when I was cooking for the rest of the week but not really an actual meal.

Same ole same ole.

Dreaming about these. Definitely will make again with the full recipe coming out soon.

Day 3: Today I went back to school and  planning my meals are really difficult because I am out all day. Thankfully I took some time out of my night yesterday and made some food for the rest of the week. I had my overnight oats (not pictured, full recipe coming out soon) for breakfast around 10am and was full for a while. One of my sisters wanted to hang out for a bit so we went to Panera for lunch around 2 and had some  soup so I had some squash soup with sprouted bread (not really sure what was in it but let’s hope it was healthy haha). Later that night I wasn’t that hungry but I knew that if i didn’t eat anything I would be tempted to eat something I shouldn’t so I had one of my favorite simple meals, baked chicken and honey.

Don’t knock it till you try it. SO delicious 🙂

Overall, it was going great until day 3. I really wanted something sweet, mainly chocolate and just a jar of nutella haha. This isn’t my usual craving but when I try to avoid sugar I have the craziest cravings. Hopefully these will go away soon as time passes by. Stay tuned for the next post to see this challenge completed and my thoughts on if it was worth the trouble or not. Thanks for stoping by and hope to see you next time!

A better night

Fall Break  = More Sleep?

With Fall Break upon us I was hoping for more sleep but I guess you can't plan everything. I am not too upset I wasn't able to sleep 7+ hours the entire weekend because I was able to nap a lot and just rest.

10/10-10/11: Thursday Night

On Friday my classes were canceled in the morning so I was lucky enough to sleep in and then go to spin class pretty rested. Afterwards we ran a ton of errands and then hit the road for about 3 1/2 hours to visit my Dad. I was very exhausted but unfortunately wasn’t able to sleep till later that night.

10/11-10/12: Friday Night

Gosh, I was so exhausted Friday night after all that driving but we went over my mom’s friend’s place and she was having so much fun so I didn’t want to say anything. Thankfully Saturday was really chill and I rested the entire day  so the almost 6 hours of sleep didn’t hit too hard.

I really am trying to sleep more. I noticed a huge difference in my mood, food habits, and overall attitude when I was able to get in a good amount of sleep but unfortunately one night of great sleep just isn’t enough. My goal for the next week is to really examine what is keeping me from sleeping early and if ways I can prioritize my sleep like I do with other things.

I hope this challenge was at least semi-interesting to you and if there is another challenge you would like me to try for week, comment below. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this. I appreciate it.

Sincerely Hassinah ♥️

Already Failed

Sometimes you need to think short-term for long-term goals and that is exactly why I wanted to incorporate weekly challenges where I take upon a different challenge each week chosen by you. These challenges allow me to get a step closer to being the best possible version of myself. This week about 55% of participants on the Insta Story poll chose that I sleep 7+ hours everyday and I wanted to update you on where I am at in this process.

The photo above is a snapshot of the data my Fitbit collected and lets just say this week was kinda hell and I am glad it’s over. With 6hrs and 13 min being the average, I am not proud of how this first challenge turned out and honestly was hesitant to even show you all, but this is where the change happens. In addition to the tracking of hours slept, I documented how I felt after I woke up that day. I wanted to include the past history of my sleep patterns but unfortunately my Fitbit account got hacked and I had to create a new account. Not sure why it was hacked but if I had to guess, they probably were jealous of all my badges lol (sorry ;-)).

My day-to-day routine differs each week on the basis of how much my work load is and what my job schedule is like. To understand why my results were the way they were, I will briefly discuss how my week went.

10/6-10/7: Sunday Night

There was actually not a much of a reason that I couldn’t get 7+ hours of sleep Sunday night besides the fact my brain decided to think about literally anything and everything.

Morning report: I took a while to fall asleep. My brain was really hyperactive and I kept tossing and turning. Worried I wasn’t going to fall asleep. When I woke up, I did not feel rested but rather exhausted.

10/7-10/8: Monday Night

I had classes till 1 that day and then met up with group to get some work done a for a project. After that I was working on some Hw which took roughly 5 hours to complete (I know, ridiculous).

Morning report: Sill took some time to fall asleep but not as long as the yesterday. Woke up feeling rested but could probably go for a couple more hours.

10/8-10/9: Tuesday Night

I had class at 8am-11 am and then I went to work all the way till 7. After wards I had to finish up writing my paper and the study for a test I had the next day in the morning.

Morning report: I had a test in the morning so I didn’t have a choice but to get up and just go. Didn’t really pay attention on how I was feeling.

10/9-10/10: Wednesday Night

On Wednesday I had class till 1 then I went to work till 7. I normally am off around 5 every Tuesday-Friday, but due to Fall Break, I needed to find a way to work 20 hours in a shorter period of time. When my shift was over I had another paper to write along with one of those long, dreadful Hw assignments for my corporate class. Everything was complete around 10:30ish, but I spent some time with my mom and sister because I hardly ever see them, or like anyone.

Morning report: It was actually physically very challenging getting up. I woke up at 6:45 which I normally wake up an hour earlier than that. I pushed really hard and managed to leave the house but still was very tired.

Overall this week was one of those tough ones and just so happens to fall under this challenge. I think it is nice way to visualize how your body copes under stress and what factor may contribute to it. I definitely feel when I am under a lot of stress it takes longer to fall asleep and I am less likely to feel well rested when I wake up.

Please come back Sunday as we bring this challenge to an end. I want to share some interesting facts about sleep and the importance of it. I hope to do this challenge again at the end of the month to see if any improvement was made. Oh and tomorrow, I will be posting a bonus blog about my overnight oats. It’s going to be great! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this. I appreciate it.

Woah, It’s finally happening!

Welcome to my first blog post! In this post I want to dive right into the introduction of this blog as we prepare for the official content that will be uploaded next week.

What’s it about?

Sincerely Hassinah is a lifestyle blog created in an informal format that will practically act like my journal. This blog is intended to inspire and motivate others to do more with their lives and most importantly, HAVE FUN. Life is way too short to push through it and forget about what really matters, you. Some of my interests include grocery shopping, hiking, working out, cooking, and just basic stuff (haha), but I also am a full time student that works and enjoys being as active as possible in anything and everything.

What to expect?

The future blog posts will be styled like journal entries where I focus on current events that are happening in my life and ways I handle my day-to-day activities. This is a lifestyle blog that will sort of document different parts of my life, i.e school, work, and other routines.  I also want to incorporate weekly challenges to spice things up a bit. These challenges range from easy to difficult, easy being talking daily walks while difficult ones consist of altering my daily routines. Although I my blogs will be covering a lot, I wanted to create some Vlog style video to connect with my readers more and make the content more exciting. I know this is will take some time getting everything to flow smoothly, but nonetheless it will all make sense once we get started. Because everything is still in the making there will not be a challenge this week but definitely get excited for the one next week that will be chosen by you.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Thanks so much,

Sincerely Hassinah
